Abstract:Quality circle in US are small groups which work on specific problems or issues and trained in problem identification, problem solving, statistical control measures and group dynamics. This paper examines how quality circles have fared in some major corporations. The survey and the interviews conducted as part of this research focus on the use and perceived value of quality circles in large organizations and the extent of their use. Most of the persons interviewed no longer believed stand alone quality circles were viable. The idea that evolved from quality circles is now embedded in total quality management in the form of self-directed work groups.
