| Abstract: | This note addresses different classes of equivalence results concerning scheduling performance measures. The authors explore various notions of order preservation and show when and how the quality of a heuristic solution to a particular problem may be inferred from an equivalent problem, and when it may not be inferred. The results which the authors obtained are generally reassuring: with two possible exceptions , a "good" solution to a scheduling problem is guaranteed to be at least as good to an equivalent problem. |
