Abstract: | The objective of this research was to determine why the British book retailing trade, widely regarded as in decline, should have been transformed and restructured in the period from 1982, especially as, under the Net Book Agreement, significant price competition was not possible. Case studies of W.H.Smith, the long time industry leader , and the two major emergent chains led by dominant entrepreneurs whose strategies triggered the changes, are presented. |
