Abstract: | The long awaited recovery from "transformational recession" has finally arrived, at least in three out of the four countries under consuderation. It has, however, been weaker than expected in some countries. It is most visible in terms of GDP, with Polish growth in the healthy 4-5% range, and that in the two other countries, Hungary and the Czech Republic, in the 0.5-2% range. Differences in the aggregate performance stem to an important extent from the degree of structural adjustment (ownership, size and sectoral changes) and macroeconomic policies pursued. |
