Abstract:Back office accounting shops are under siege. Line managers are asking for productivity improvements that seem impossible to reach, transaction and accounting staffs are stressed from overwork, and too many of the systems date from the days when PC meant punch cards. Shared services is a new management concept for addressing these issues in companies to gain advantage from decentralized management and less hierarchical structures. The idea is to share resources (organizational staff and technology) while providing defined services.
