Abstract:The analysis of the international transactions in services is a part of the Balance of Payments Statistics. At the end of 1993 the International Monetary Found published the fifth edition of the Balance of Payments Manual providing guidance to member countries in the compilation of balance of payments. The Manual facilitates the international comparability of Balance of Payments Statistics. It also served as a mean to achieve harmonisation between the Balance of Payments Statistics and the System of National Accounts and with Central Product Classification. There are to ways known in the world of collecting the data regarding the international transactions in services. The first one is reporting on each single transaction (international transactions reporting system), the second one is surveying the enterprises (enterprise surveys). The Bank of Slovenia is in charge of compiling the Balance of Payments Statistics and therefore follows the international transactions in services between Slovenia and other countries, too.The actual system consists of collecting the data through domestic banks and through enterprises that hold accounts abroad. The services that are the most important in the international exchange of services between Slovenia and other countries are: travel, transportation, construction services, operational leasing, merchanting and financial services. The Bank of Slovenia is going to improve the statistics regarding the international transactions in services through surveying the enterprises and through a new classification of international transactions.
