| Abstract: | This paper analyses the evolution of computers and automation systems applications in the manufacturing function with emphasis on discontinuous process (machining/assembly). It also analyses the conditions of applicability based on the nature of products and specific companies. The strategy relations between the manufacturing applications of computers and automation systems and corporate policy are discussed. Included are interviews with two companies, concerning the approaches to introduce factory automation in their organizations. |
