| Abstract: | Operational control of computerized manufacturing systems concerns parts selection for current processing, parts input into the system, routeing of parts and material handling devices, and handling of machine breakdowns. This research addresses the specific problems of parts launching, the periodic raw material input, parts dispatching, and the selection of the next workstation. Control strategies are developed for a test system and it is shown that a hierarchical control strategy works best when multiple performance criteria are interest. |
