Abstract:Scheduling is concerned with determining when and using what resources for work orders to be accomplished. Existing computer-based scheduling systems do not quite address the need to make effective decisions. Artificial intelligence techniques have opened ways for adressing such issues in production scheduling. This paper develops a rule-based systems approach to deal with the dynamic scheduling problem. It reviews the AI-based scheduling systems and describes the system that is developed and implemented on a test case.
