| Abstract: | To shed a new light on understanding Deming's philosophy, the purpose of this paper is to empirically extract a set of critical management principles, using survey data from manufacturing and service firms, based on a collection of 50 quality practices that were synthesized from the Deming philosophy. Specifically, exploratory factor analysis is employed to determine whether Deming's 14 principles can be explained by a smaller set of meaningful factors. Practitioners can use the critical extracted factors to guide them in implementing Deming's philosophy. |
