| Abstract: | Firms adopt cellular manufacturing to achieve the benefits associated with mass production reduced setup times, lower work in process levels, faster throughput times, improved product quality, and reduced material handling. This paper investigates the effects of alternative shop loading procedures for cellular and functional layouts in a variety of operating environments. It provides insights for choosing the best alternative shop layout and loading combination for a given operating environment. |
