Abstract:Let's face it. 1995 was the Year of Going Nowhere Slowly for most Asian bourses. A currency crisis on the other side of the world, in Mexico, tarnished Asia's emerging markets in the eyes of international fund managers. That was in January. fears of overheating and the specter of rising inflation added to the worries. Then higher U.S. interest rates enticed American money back home. Will 1996 be different? If recent cuts in global interest rates continue, say analysts, portfolio investors would venture out again for higher returns in Asia.
