Abstract: | Entrepreneurs like Jade Chow would say China's efforts to rein in economic growth have been too successful. Hong Kong-owned Elegance Textiles in the mainland's Shenzhen Special Economic Zone had a lousy 1995. "Our profit margin went down to only a few percentage points, which is a substantial reduction from when my company first entered China in the late 1980s," says the 32 year old managing director of the medium-size factory. Yet , she says, the family-owned maker of silk garments was one of the lucky ones. |
