| Abstract: | In 1990 Leicester became the UK's first "Environment City" in what was regarded as the start of an experiment in developing and testing an organisational model that could be applied across a range of local communities. Using a prescribed structure of Specialist Working Groups and co-ordinated by an Executive Forum, the Environment City initiative is intended to encourage a holistic approach to local sustainable development through the promotion of cross-sectoral participation in decision-making and implementation. |
