Abstract:Environmental problems have risen up both the policy-making and business agendas to become an issue of vital importance. One potential route out of the seeming dichotomy between industry and the environment is that of sustainable development. Indeed, sustainable development has come to play a central role in much environmental policy-making with the aim of integrating economic development and environmental protection. Within such policies, it has increasingly been argued that it is essential that business and industry introduce their own environmental strategies.
