Abstract:This special issue is initiated to reflect the current status of Scandinavian management research in the area of business and the environment. Ecological considerations did not begin to arouse serious interest in management research in Scandinavia until the late eighties. Unti1l then ecologically oriented research has been the domain of natural scientists, engineers, political scientists and economists. Their research has been concerned with questions related to the interaction of our socio-technical systems with the environment, and with the restrictions which governments impose on companies in order to secure the adaptation of business to the ecological system. Now management research has discovered this field, and there is a growing concern to establish a profile in this area.
