| Abstract: | The multilateral approach towards an investment agreement raises the question whether a regional economic integration organization like the European Union would need a so called regional economic integration organization clause which would allow it to continue with its internal investment liberalization at a faster pace than with regard to European Union outsiders. Although from a purely economic point of view any discrimination against non-European Union investors could hardly be justified, there may be reasons deriving from EU law that make such different treatment necessary. |
