| Abstract: | The survey of Japanese machinery makers in the Asean countries shows that these companies are moving in four general directions to strengthen their operations in the region. Some are introducing low-cost machinery and improving their competitiveness through internal organizational changes. Others are launching new types of hi-end machinery. Still others are making better use of the region as a manufacturing base, and a few are turning their manufacturing capabilities into entirely new businesses. |
