Abstract:This article provides information about group processes that mediate the effect of relationship level on task performance. The results indicate that some process differences in acquaintance and friendship groups account for the performance superiority of friendship groups on motor and cognitive tasks. Although friendship groups communicate more and provide more positive encouragement, they also are more committed and cooperative which leads high performance levels. Task monitoring was positively related to task performance.
