| Abstract: | As part of the general globalization process, international standards, conformity assessment practices and registration programs are proliferating at a dizzying rate. Standards and related practices are a necessary function of a global economy, but they also can become trade barriers when misapplied. As global standards, such as ISO-9000, try to ensure quality, they also may act as trade barriers. |
