Abstract:The idea of continual change/renewal is a prominent one for both theorists and practitioners of organizations operating in innovative environments. These changes are usually described using Kuhn's (1970) paradigm framework. Yet, the rapid, ongoing changes in innovative organizations do not 'fit' with his notion of infrequent paradigm shifts. Popper's (1965) theory of revolutionary science provides the cognitive model that best explains transformations in innovative industries. A case study of change based on Popper's world view is discussed. Implications of this philosophical framework are presented.
