Abstract: | The case of the United States' nation-building is an instructive example of the articulation of such a nationalistic mythmoteur which, in the absence of an ethno-cultural pedigree, did not hesitate to invent one. In the process of the founding of the American nation, the assumed homogeneity of the American people which made them embrace free institutions, became entangled with exclusionary racial concerns when the first naturalization laws were debated in the 1790s. |
