| Abstract: | In the paper the significance and the major features of Professor Erich Gutenberg's outstanding work - Grundlagen der Betriebswirtschaftslehre - are portrayed under various aspects. It is shown that the productivity of the fourth productive factor that has been characterized by Erich Gutenberg as the entrepreneurial or governance factor (besides labour, tools and material) can be understood as a function of appropriateness relative to the given circumstances of combination as is applies to the three elementary factors as well. The secret of the possible success of the combination of factors is basically not determined by aspects like charisma as the latter itself has to be interpreted as a function of accidental appropriateness. The high percentage of stable enterprises is explained. |
