Abstract:When one looks back over the period since the foundation of the Irish State, one discovers for much of that period a none too flattering picture of either management education or management research. The initial signs appeared promising enough. Commerce Faculties were established in the early 1900s in the new colleges of the National University of Ireland. A School of Commerce was established in Trinity College in 1925. It is not easy to identify any champions of this development, nor indeed any well worked out rationale for giving a distinct academic focus to management education.
