Abstract:One hundred twenty student subjects from Turkey and the U.S. participated in a prisoner's dilemma type game. Subjects were given a chance to communicate with their adversary either directly or through an intermediary. It was found that Turkish students significantly preferred the intermediary, whereas the U.S. students chose direct communication. In addition, there are more results on an interaction effect with gender etc. The findings are interpreted in terms of differences in individualism-collectivism btw. the two cultures.
