Abstract:In this paper groups selected from two different populations must determine an outcome in a context consistent with the existence of both socially efficient and inefficient free riding equilibria. The behavior of economics and business students is compared with that of nurses. Whereas groups of economics and business students move inexorably toward an inefficient strong free riding equilibrium, groups of nurses keep trying to coordinate around an efficient threshold equilibrium.
