Abstract:Two years ago Dresser Industries, Inc. and Komatsu, Ltd. formed an alliance in the United States to compete more effectively against industry leader Caterpillar Inc. Komatsu took over Dresser's U.S. construction equipment plants and the production of selected lines of Dresser tractors, the alliance also let Komatsu use Dresser's distribution network to sell its tractors in the United States. The advantage for Dresser was that it gained access to Komatsu's sophisticated tractor manufacturing process.
