Abstract:The overall plan and layout of the project of diverting water from the south to the north is as follows: by making use of the eastern, middle and western projects, divert water respectively from the main stream and tributaries of lower reaches, middle reaches and upper reaches of the Yangtze River and gradually solve the shortage of water in Jiangsu, Shandong, Beijing, Tianjin, north China and northwest regions. Among them, the middle diverting project satisfies water demands in Beijing, Tianjian and north China, which have most serious shortage of water and meets the fairly high requirement for domestic and industrial consumption of water experts suggest that in the short run, the western project is able to divert 20 billion cubic meters of water and in the long run it should be combined with other large rivers to form a network.
