Abstract:One has to identify similarities and differences in HR practices between national systems. The contextual factors that cause cross-national organizational variation or similarity have to be determined. This article does this through an examination and comparison of employee representation and pay in Austria, Germany, and Sweden. It is based on case studies of eight Austrian and eight Swedish firms in the banking and chemical sectors.
