| Abstract: | A framework, which developes a basis for deciding between acquisitions and alliances as strategies for external growth, is introduced in this study. The data collected for this study show that neither strategy is superior, and each specific context determines whether acquisition or alliance best meets the strategic objectives of the focal firm. |
