Abstract:The paper considers marked slowdown of the World Economy: in the second half of 2000, the upswing in the world economy has come to an end. While the slowdown was pronounced in the US and Japan, economic growth in Western Europe held up relatively well owing to favorable monetary conditions which were mainly due to the weak euro. In the emerging market economies, growth rates also declined noticeable during the second half of 2000, especially in Asia but also in some countries in Central and Western Europe. The main ideas of the paper are the following: monetary policy should adjust cautiously, US Economy will not fall into stagnation as Japan did, slowdown will remain moderate (original in German).
