Abstract:In an era of increasing foreign direct investment and international communications, business leaders must become more adept at understanding and leveraging their relationships with business partners in other countries. Developing communicative competence in business culture requires considerable attention not only to differences in regulatory and investment climate, but also to languages and cultural understanding. The purpose of this paper is to explore the current status of international businesses and communicative competency, to examine briefly procedures that have been instituted to develop individual level competency within business settings, and to propose some ideas as to how organisations can spread this spirit of developing cross-cultural communicative competence throughout the organisation.
