Abstract:The e-mail has become so much a part of everyday life that many of us wonder how we ever got on without it. But it can be dangerous trap for the unwary. The author spells out the advantages and threats of using e-mail. Libellous e-mails can get both employers and employees into trouble. It should be remembered that e-mails are less private and more permanent than many people think. All organizations should implement an e-mail policy and this should be written into employment contracts. Employees should be warned that their e-mails may be monitored and that if the e-mail policy is breached they will face dismissal.
