Abstract:The author of the article states that the German labour market situation has deteriorated considerably as a result of the economic setback. As recently as last year, unemployment had fallen noticeably and employment risen appreciably. Furthermore, during its revision of the employment statistics in August 2000, the Federal Statistical Office revised the number in employed labor force upwards. However, this higher employment level is almost exclusively the result of the improved coverage of marginal full-time employment work. The author also covers the following subjects: Employment reacts strongly to economic cycle; Unemployment once again on increase, German structural unemployment on the rise.
