Abstract:This article examines the relationship between group diversity and different performance outcomes and determines what kind of effect an organizational workgroup has on it using a sample of 1285 workgroups from a Fortune 500 information-processing company. Workgroup context variables are divided into three categories: cultures, strategies, and human resource practises. The results indicate that employees of groups were paid differently due to what kind of workgroup contexts they belong to. Directions for future research and implications for managers and group leaders are suggested.
