Abstract:This article focuses on how the performance of teams of professionals can be promoted, and discusses the proficiency trap, i.e. even though both job enrichment practices and team support are needed for promoting teams' performance, provided in the same time they may hinder professionalsÂ’ performance both as an individual and as a team member. Using results from a study of 56 healthcare teams, it is suggested that balance btw. enriched job designs and the teamÂ’s need for support may be obtained by emphasizing the support provided by the leader, and by highlighting cultural values of low power distance and collectivism in the team.
