Abstract:This article examines the effect of interviewer appearance upon stated willingness to pay (WTP) for an environmental good. In the test the interviewer wears either formal or more casual clothing. It is also explored whether adding information on less-familiar attributes of the good can be associated with increases in stated values. The results show that both the change in appearance and the change in the information provided affect WTP. However, the interpretation of these results is not simple.
