Abstract:As a result of intensive alliance (henceforth as: all./alls.) activities, many companies have got embedded in a dense network of relationships. A company's all. portfolio (here as: p-f.) crucially influences its competitiveness and financial performance. This study deals with the question of what management (here as: mgmt.) tasks arise in companies (here as: comps.) with multiple alls. and how large global comps. deal with such tasks. Multi-all. mgmt. practices of 25 leading European comps. are analyzed. There are identified four tasks of p-f. mgmt. strategy, monitoring, co-ordination and the establishment of an all. mgmt. system. To implement these tasks, comps. need to create a dedicated all. function and develop companywide standards and customised tools for multi-all. mgmt. as to ensure that the all. p-f. contributes to attaining the company's strategic goals.
