Abstract:Software reuse is becoming a significant technology in software development. This paper focuses on deriving a descriptive and explanatory theory concerning the individual (hereafter as: ind.) and organizational (here as: org.) barriers in connection with the adoption of reuse. A case-study research method was used and a series of five cases were selected on the basis of theoretical replication. The findings indicate barriers occurring at both the ind. and org. level. It is suggested that the ind. level barriers are actually a consequence of the interaction of barriers caused at the org. level.
