Abstract: | This article examines long-term development assuming that it is the depletion and recovery of renewable, natural resources that drives feast and famine cycles. In this article Brander and Taylor's model of feast and famine cycles on Easter Island is combined with Galor and Weil's model of endogenous technological advance. It is found that different cycles of resource and human populations are caused by differences in relative prices and production stages. |
