| Abstract: | This article studies the financial decisions of small firms that are willing to invest in R&D. The empirical evidence shows that small firms in United States, United Kingdom and Canada are dependent on internal funds for financing R&D, whereas firms in Japan, Germany and France get the funds from banks. A model for examining the possible explanations for different financial arrangements in these countries is proposed. |
