Abstract:This article examines the role of knowledge management in the creation of the wide variety of competitive advantages found in some organizations. The writers review literature on resources-advantage theory of the firm, social capital and knowledge management to find ways within the organization to enhance the ability to manage knowledge and obtain sustained superior performance. The findings suggest that organizations with higher levels of social capital have more knowledge management capabilities than organizations with low levels of social capital.
