Abstract:This paper seeks to integrate both multimarket contact and strategic similarity in the analysis of market entry decisions. The role of reciprocity on contacts, market concentration and coordination mechanisms at moderating the relationships are analysed as well. The case example is taken from the Spanish savings bank market. The results provide an opportunity of conciliating conflicting evidence in both the multimarket rivarly literatures and offer support to the U-inverted impact of multimarket contact on entry. The paper also provides a method to cope with the common-actor problem.
