Abstract: | In organization theory, understanding of the effects of ownership on organizational (hereafter as: org-al.) performance is a well-established theme. However, comparison across ownership forms has been neglected. This study develops hypotheses comparing public corporations (here as: pbl-cs.), private corporations (as: prv-cs.) and partnerships (as: p-ships.) testing them in a sample of large management consultancies. It is found that prv-cs. and p-ships. outperform pbl-cs. This difference is attributed to increased monitoring by owners and greater motivation by professional workers seeking ownership stakes. Contrary to Durand and Vargas (2003), it is found that org-al. complexity has neither a direct nor a moderating effect. |
