Abstract:This paper deals with the employability of ICT professionals from the viewpoint of small- and medium-sized enterprises. The analysis is two-phased: the first phase consists in more than a hundred interviews with ICT supplier company managers in seven European countries, and the second phase is based on interviews conducted only in the UK. The findings of the first stage of this study indicated that across country borders most ICT small- and medium-sized entrepreneur employers didn't have much influence on the skill and career development of their ICT professional employees. The second stage of the analysis aimed to produce more information on career management practice and also to prove a link between empolyees' psychological contracts and employers' employability practices. The results of the study indicate that small- and medium-sized employers do take an interest in the employability of their ICT professionals, but the interest often doesn't translate into actions and policies.
