Abstract: | The purpose of this article is to de-exotize tourism theory. The paper questions a traditional view according to which tourism and everyday life belong to separate ontological spheres: instead, the article argues that the two are in fact connected in various ways. The analysis illustrates that everyday routines have a strong influence on tourism performances, and for example, tourism performances often focus on socializing pleasantly with co-travelling family and friends or visiting family and friends living elsewhere. The consequences of the everyday life focus on future tourism research are also discussed. |
