Abstract: | This paper examines how organizational (hereafter as: org-al.) identity (here as: org-id.) is constructed at four very different management consulting firms. Suggested are four broad dimensions that org-al. members refer to in constructing their org-id.: Knowledge Work, Management and Membership, Personal Orientation, and External Interface. Multiple themes within these broad dimensions of identity construction are identified. Highlighted are many broader identity-related issues, particularly: the extent to which shared ideas of a distinct org-id. are present or absent in organizations, the relationship btw. org-al. and the individual etc. |
