Abstract:In order to explain differences in organizational strategies, this article combines new and old institutionalism. Differences in the influence of corporate departments (henceforth as: c-depts.) is proposed to lead their facilities to prioritize different external pressures, thus adopting different management practices (here as: mgmt-prcs.). It is argued that external constituents, e.g. customers, ... , legislators, local communities etc. interacting with influential c-depts. more likely affect facility managers' decisions. As a result, managers of facilities adopt distinct sets of mgmt-prcs. Based on an original survey and archival data from nearly 500 facilities, the framework is tested. There is support found for the hypotheses.
