Abstract: | This paper examines hypothesized (hereafter as: hyp.) links btw. the board of directors and firm performance (here as: f-perf.) as predicted by the three predominant theories in corporate governance research, that's, agency theory (as: th.), stewardship th. and resource dependence th. Examined is the hyp. link between board demography and f-perf. expected under each th. By employing a pattern matching analysis of seven cases, it is found that while each th. can explain a particular case, no single th. explains the general pattern of results. |
