Abstract:This paper develops a model of public good provision with private goods being supplied in a monopolistically competitive market. In the model, group size corresponds to population (here as: pop). It is found that pop. increases lead to reduced public good provision. The reason is quite simple: With the pop. increase, the number of private goods available for consumption also increases. This raises the marginal utility of income, increasing the opportunity cost of contributing to the public good.
